MOVIE INFO

Worlds collide in "The Flash" when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to.
That is unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian... albeit not the one he's looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry's only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?

First

His name is Barry Allen, and he is the fastest man alive.

If you're watching Super Bowl 57, then you're been subjected to a number of ads and movie trailers, but none particularly as intriguing as DC Comics' "The Flash" flick.

With the company in a state of disarray and approaching a total reset under James Gunn, "The Flash" is one of the last films to be tied to the previous DC Expanded Universe, alongside "Aquaman 2" and a potential "Flash" sequel. That is to say, yes, there are more reboots coming, and no, Hollywood has no more original ideas.

Still, if you've thumbed through the pages of a DC Comic, then the Flash's upcoming flick is probably something you've looked forward to since John Wesley Shipp donned the red and yellow and became everyone's favorite forensic scientist in 1990.

Super Bowl 57 is the Flashpoint. Here's what to know about the upcoming movie starring the Scarlet Speedster

What is 'The Flash' movie?

Focused on the eponymous DC Comics superhero, "The Flash" follows Barry Allen on his quest to reset his universe after traveling back in time to stop his mother from being murdered.

As it happens to the time-traveling speedster throughout comics history, the Flash's actions have major consequences. Mainly, fracturing realities and bringing back familiar faces into the fold — and berthing DC's multiverse.

'The Flash' release date

• Date: June 16, 2023

• How to watch: In theaters

After a short stint in development hell, "The Flash" is finally set to release in theaters worldwide on June 16, 2023.

"The Flash" saw several directorial changes, the purchase of Warner Bros. by Discovery, several controversies surrounding its lead, and several rewrites. Still, it's set to release this year as one of the last links of the current DC Extended Universe.

'The Flash' trailer

Who is the Flash in the 2023 movie?

Who is the Flash in the 2023 movie?

Ezra Miller, who portrayed Barry Allen in "Justice League" and "Batman vs. Superman," returns in "The Flash" movie set to release in June.

Miller, who has been embroiled in a number of controversies and legal issues in recent years, was retained by Warner Bros. studios to play the superhero. If "The Flash 2" is greenlit, then Miller is expected to portray the hero again.

Grant Gustin, who plays the Flash in the popular CW series, is rumored to have a cameo in the upcoming movie.

How many Flash movies are there?

Somewhat surprisingly, the Miller-led Flash movie will be the first live-action feature film to hit the silver screen.

The Flash has appeared in plenty of animated movies, as well as two live-action shows.

In 1990, John Wesley Shipp starred as Barry Allen/The Flash in "The Flash" TV series on CBS. In 2014, Grant Gustin earned the top billing as Barry Allen in a series also named "The Flash" on the CW. The series is nearing its end, with the ninth and final season premiering on Feb. 8.

The Flash movie cast

Most notably, "The Flash" features the return of Michael Keaton as Batman. Keaton played the Caped Crusader in the 1989 movie "Batman" as well as the 1992 sequel "Batman Returns."

Ben Affleck, who played Bruce Wayne/Batman in "Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Justice League," also has a small role in the movie.

Why One Flash Has Blue Lightning & The Other Orange In The Flash Movie

Why One Flash Has Blue Lightning & The Other Orange In The Flash Movie

The two versions of Barry Allen in The Flash movie have different lightning colors when they run, which is a direct tease of how powerful each is.

The two Flashes in The Flash movie have different lighting colors, and here is why Barry Allen's powers look different. The long-awaited solo movie for The Flash is finally nearing its release after nearly a decade in development. It stars Ezra Miller as Barry Allen, who attempts to save his mother from dying only to mess up the timeline. The Flash largely takes place in a universe where meta-humans are no more, General Zod has potentially conquered Earth, and Barry is left to team up with Michael Keaton's Batman and Supergirl (Sasha Calle). Each represents how The Flash is connected to the multiverse.

STORY

The Flash's story also represents an opportunity for Ezra Miller to play multiple versions of Barry Allen. Utilizing the notion that different versions of the same person exist throughout the multiverse, Miller is confirmed to play at least two versions of Barry Allen in The Flash. One is from the original DC Universe timeline, but the other appears to be a Flash who exists in the altered timeline. The DCU's Flash sports a brand-new suit, while the multiverse Flash is seen wearing a custom suit made of an old Michael Keaton Batman suit. The Flash trailer teases another big difference in their appearance too with different lighting colors.
